Hence innovative features & upgrades come regularly to further increase the efficiency of mobile phones. Listed here are all the new improvements & features that come with the new Snapdragon 865.
CPU Power & Upgrades
The new Snapdragon 865 now integrates a fast ‘Prime Core-ARM Cortex A77’ based on Kyro 585 running at 2.84GHz which boosts the multi-core performance by 25%, along with 3 ARM Cortex A77 running at 2.42 GHz & 4 Cortex A55 cores running at 1.8GHZ for mid-performance & low power usage respectively. SD865 can even perform at par with the Apple A13 Soc as opposed to SD 855. TSMC’s first-generation 7nm “N7” mode has been used to manufacture the more power-efficient & capable SD865 as compared to the TSMC-improved 7nm “N7P” node used in SD855.
Better Gaming & speedy graphics upload
The new SD 865 has an upgraded Adreno 650 as opposed to Adreno 640 in SD 855, which yields a 20% increase in graphics rendering. New features have been added in the ‘Elite Gaming Suit’ i.e Desktop Forward Rendering, Snapdragon Game Performance Engine, Game Color Plus, Adreno HDR Fast Blend and updatable GPU drivers which are missing in the SD 855’s Elite Gaming Suit.
It is likely that this year we may see phones with 144Hz display. Although both SD 865 & SD 855 can support on-device as well as external 4K ultra HD display & HDR10+, the latest SD 865 can even support QHD+ 144 Hz (UHD 60 Hz) display.
Improved Camera Performance
The camera setup has become one of the major features for a customer to look out for. SD 865 incorporates ‘Spectra 480’ for more detailed images, better camera performance & can process images up to 200MP (64MP ZSL). It captures images up to 64MP bursts & supports 4K HDR video. On the other hand, the ‘Spectra 380’ can process images up to 192MP (48MP ZSL).
5th Generation AI
The most significant upgrade is the 5th generation AI engine, in SD 865 managing 15 TOPS (trillions of operations) which is twice as powerful as the SD 855 managing 7 TOPS. Its Hexagon DSP now comes with Hexagon Vector eXtensions in SD 865.
In terms of internal storage, both support the UFS 3.0 storage. Whereas SD 865 has an LPDDR5 memory at up to 2750MHz for RAM, SD 855 supports LPDDR4 at 2133MHz.
The 2nd Gen Snapdragon X55 4G LTE and 5G multimode modem provide a neat solution for 4G LTE & 5G smartphones. Supporting the dual-mode SA/NSA 5g network & dual SIM 5G technology, it offers a download speed of 7Gbps & upload speed of 3Gbps over 5G network. On the other hand, X50 5G modem on SD 855 is only built for 5G connectivity & a separate X24 LTE modem is required for 4G connectivity.
