Why does your phone vibrate when you visit a scam website? Is it a Virus!

You must have opened a link sent in Whatsapp groups claiming some rewards and when you open that page, your Android phone starts to vibrate and it’s irritating. You think your phone has been attacked by some virus and you immediately close the tab.

Vibration was intended for HTML5 games.

Well, that’s natural to close that irritating page as it ‘may’ harm your device but the vibration is not caused by any virus or any badware. It’s simply an HTML5 feature which is being wrongfully used by some web developers.

Vibration feature was intended to be used by game developers for the web to make your phone vibrate on certain events. But some web-devs have triggered the vibration on page load which can annoy anyone. And the fact is that on Chrome for Android, it cannot be disabled. There are some browsers like Firefox which let users shut off the vibration.

The Vibration API is being misused as fake (web) phone calls, fake ‘update’ pop-ups, etc. So be safe when you visit these scam websites and all websites which trigger vibration is not a┬áscam website.
